Commemorating a Fall Classic Unlike Any Other

When the 2022 Major League Baseball season started, no one would have guessed that the tepid start to the Philadelphia Phillies campaign would turn out to be one of the most exciting Octobers in team history. From Bryce Harper being regulated to DH duty with an elbow injury to Alec Bohm’s early season struggles and the bullpen being the team’s Achilles heel, you wouldn’t have been blamed if you were already thinking about the beginning of the Eagles’ season as the calendar changed from May to June.

However, with embattled manager Joe Giradi getting fired on June 1st and interim manager Rob Thomson getting the job, it seemed like a gentle breeze of change had begun to blow. With a wild summer and whirlwind October reestablishing the narrative of the 2022 season, wouldn’t it be nice to find a limited edition customized plaque in Philadelphia, PA, to mark the occasion? With the help of Spike’s Trophies, now you can!

Marking a Wild Ride

Even the most optimistic fan had reservations when Rob Thomson took over the reins of the club at the beginning of June. It was the same seemingly flawed roster that lacked depth in the starting rotation, the bullpen was still a disaster, and the best player, Bryce Harper, couldn’t play in the field but could still hit as the DH. But, with the even-keel Thomson at the helm — and Wawa’s Hoagiefest fueling Kyle Schwarber’s awakening — the team started winning, winning, and winning some more.

This remarkable turnaround had them in the thick of the Wild Card race, bringing more fans into the stands as they slowly started to believe in the team again. Every game saw more fire from the players and had the fans buying into their rag-tag group of high-priced vets and young home-grown talent to breathe new life into Citizens Bank Park.

As they marched towards the first October baseball in South Philadelphia since 2011 ended with a Ryan Howard torn Achilles, the fans started to return in droves, even with the red-hot start of the Eagles’ season. With the Phillies sneaking into the playoffs as the third Wild Card team, they began a magical October run that we wanted to help commemorate with our two limited edition laminated plaques.

A “Phall Classic” to Remember

With every October win came a city’s new obsession with a cover version of “Dancing on My Own,” and the Phillies wormed their way into the hearts of the city and fans across the country as they came up against the stacked Houston Astros. With a hard-fought series with late-game heroics, expertly managed bullpens, and one combined no-hitter at the Phillies’ expense, they ultimately came up short in their quest for a third World Series title. However, by making their way to the Fall Classic when everything was stacked against them and the entire sports world expected them to fold back in June, they captured the mentality of the city they called home to perfection. With mammoth home runs, bat spikes, and wild comebacks, the Philadelphia Phillies made baseball fun again for the first time in over a decade since the pinnacle of the Chase Utley, Ryan Howard, and Jimmy Rollins years.
